Yard debris or other materials are not permitted.
Fires must be constantly monitored and completely extinguished if unattended.
A water source (such as a garden hose or bucket of water) must be readily available at all times.
What is Prohibited?
Burning construction debris, garbage, treated or painted wood, tires, and similar materials is strictly forbidden.
Use of burn barrels is illegal.
Burning during air pollution alerts or poor air quality episodes.
Burning garbage, dead animals, asphalt, or materials producing dense smoke or odors.
Moving debris from one property to another for burning.
Leaving fires unattended.
General Permit Information
Even with a valid Burn Permit, you may not burn natural vegetation during a burn ban.
No burn permits are issued or valid within the City of Black Diamond or urban growth areas — state law prohibits yard waste burning within city limits.
Burn piles must be no larger than 4' x 4' x 3', consist only of leaves, clippings, or natural vegetation from adjacent properties, and must be attended at all times with a water source (such as a garden hose or bucket of water) readily available.
Permits are valid only for the specified address and are non-transferable.
Failure to comply with permit conditions may result in fines or permit cancellation.
The Fire Chief or designee can cancel permits or impose bans at any time due to violations, smoke complaints, or weather conditions.
Additional Permitted Fires
Firefighting training fires (excluding forest fires).
Agricultural fires for disease control, insect management, weed abatement, or crop improvement, but only with prior written approval from a county extension agent or agricultural specialist.
Our Regular Burn Ban
From July 1 through Labor Day, our district enforces a standing burn ban due to wildfire risks, which may be extended. Please be considerate of neighbors with respiratory conditions and follow all regulations to minimize smoke. Also, please note that any ban imposed by the King County Fire Marshal, and/or Puget Sound Clean Air may supersede our ban, extending the duration and severity of a burn ban.
