  • If you suspect illegal burning, please call 911 immediately so a crew can be dispatched to investigate and ensure proper documentation is completed.

    Do not call our headquarters station, as it may be unstaffed during holidays, weekends, and outside regular business hours.

  • For residents within our district, a standing burn ban on natural vegetation is in effect from July through Labor Day. This ban may be extended by our agency, Puget Sound Clean Air and/or the King County Fire Marshal, depending on conditions.

  • With a valid permit, burning is allowed only for natural vegetation, such as sticks and leaves. Burn permits do not authorize the burning of construction debris, trash, or materials from land-clearing activities.

  • Most burn ban updates will be posted on our website (www.mvfire.org) and shared on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Our standing annual burn ban runs from July through Labor Day, but it may be extended based on conditions by the King County Fire Marshal or Puget Sound Clean Air.

  • Residents only within Mountain View Fire & Rescue’s district boundaries. Permits are not valid inside Black Diamond city limits or any urban growth development area (as determined by King County); permits issued to those locations are invalid even if printed.

    To determine your district, visit King County Parcel Viewer > click "Launch Parcel Viewer" > Enter your address in the tool bar near the top and select "Search". When your property appears, select "District Reports" > under "Electoral districts" find "Fire district". If we (Mountain View Fire and Rescue) are indicated, you're in our district.

  • A single burn pile is allowed, up to 4 feet × 4 feet × 3 feet, at the permitted address only. The burn pile must consist of natural vegetation only, such as sticks and leaves. Land-clearing burning, construction debris, trash, or any other materials are not permitted. Debris from other locations (addresses, lots, or properties) may not be transported and burned at a different site.

  • Burning Safety Tips:

    • Stay with the fire at all times—never leave it unattended.

    • Ensure you have an adequate water source available, such as a hose.

    • Burn only on bare mineral soil (dirt) within a contained burn area.

    • Keep children and pets safely away from the fire at all times.

    • If the fire grows larger than 4 feet × 4 feet × 3 feet, or if you are concerned it may be spreading or becoming unsafe, call 911 immediately.
